Mississippi You’re On My Mind….

I have been home for nearly a week and just now I am finally getting all my photos organized and online. You can see all of my photo’s on my Flickr Page.
I must say that it really was a treat to see the Carroll County Market in person. I have been hearing about and reading about it and updating the website for over a year now, but there is nothing like experiencing it for myself. The food is wonderful, truly the best pulled pork, ribs and steaks you’ve ever had and an incredibly warm and friendly staff. Special thanks to Cecil (folks in Carrollton call him “Tot”) and Hank, Glenda and Sterling, Greg and Heather and the rest of the CCM Crew for making me feel so welcome.
Friday night was a blast! A sold out show featuring Wayne “The Train” Hancock and a surprise birthday party for Greg Harkins. Wayne put on a great show and we all know now why he is called “The Train”… there is no stopping him.
After a very late night on Friday, it was great to just hang out with Cecil’s friends on Saturday afternoon in Carrollton. Greg fixed us a special breakfast including real homemade biscuits. We spent hours lounging on the porch. I think I was even able to sneak in a nap.
Other highlights from the trip were visiting the Mississippi John Hurt Museum and grave site, a brief tour of Clarksdale with stops at the Crossroads and Shack Up Inn.
Cecil was an excellent tour guide. We took a little road trip on Monday drove from Carrollton to Natchez with stops in a cane field and a crazy roadside church and Vicksburg. I enjoyed walking around Vicksburg where we stopped at funky art store and lunch at Borello’s. I highly recommend the steak bites appetizer!
On Tuesday, we took a scenic drive along the Natchez Trace with a stop at Rocky Springs. We took the Trace back to Jackson where I caught my plane and headed home.
A very enjoyable trip indeed! Thanks again Cecil! Perhaps I should rename this post … Mr Sippy You’re On My Mind.

Enjoyed your piece on Tot’s escapades and the whole CCM crew. I was back visiting during New Year’s and everything was being remodeled. The place looks great! Really enjoyed the pictures - I haven’t seen Doc Harkins in about 20 years - I actually helped him build chairs before Tot and I went into the Navy (over 30 years ago). One of the chairs we built went to my grandmother. She went on home to heaven this past Christmas (just one month short of 100 years old), but used to sit in that chair all the time. Doc actually signed the chair on the bottom of the armrest when he gave it to her. That chair came back to me in her will. I sure do miss runnin’ around down there. Once again, thanks for the excellent blog and pictures.

Ha! This is funny, especially since Doc is here right now, expecting to present a rocker to John McCain on his anticipated visit to Carrollton today. Doc was sayin’ that he was mad at Hank (likely for not coming to visit him on his last trip to Mississip.)

Marisa…it was great to meet you & enjoyed our fun time together! I hope we get to do it again some time. The pics are great . . . I’m so glad you captured the goofy fun that this bunch has in Carrollton!
